Skiing in Greece??You’ll be amazed…

Are you kidding me??

The answer is quite simple and it is a huge YES! Now, I can only imagine your face expression as you read these lines…Winter holidays in Greece? Within the next few minutes and after reading this, maybe you will start to be looking for air tickets and accommodation  to spend your Christmas holidays here with us! But let’s get started, shall we?

Please, lean closer to your screen…I want to share a “secret” with you… Do you know how many skiing centers Greece has? 18 (eighteen!!) skiing centers suitable for newbies and advanced! I am sure that the majority of you reading this post had no idea about that fact! No worries though, that’s why I am here! So now you realized that Greece is not only the white sand, the gorgeous beaches and the amazing crystal clear waters!

The closest skiing center in Athens is the one in Mount Ziria and it is only 155 km from Athens, meaning around 1.5 hours driving. It is one of the smallest having only 2 lifts but it is the ideal place to start skiing and snowboarding!

The most famous in the country I dare to say is the one in Parnassos, located in central Greece 180 km from Athens. It receives the biggest number of visitors every year, as being very close to Athens and other major cities. It has many ski slopes and lifts, making it the ideal destination for ski lovers of different calibres.

Accommodation of every kind is to be found in the vicinity of every skiing resort. A huge variety featuring from hostels with the minimum amenities to luxury hotels with private indoor swimming pools and personal butler.Υou name it, they have it!

Almost all the resorts start to operate from the mid of December until April. The estimated time of operation can vary from year to year usually due to weather conditions.  Of course, I do not have to tell you that the quality of the skiing experience in Greece has nothing to do with the one you can have in the Alps or even in some other areas of Central and Northern Europe. We cannot compete them either in the know-how of delivering amazing skiing experience nor in the landscape capabilities. But it is good for everyone to know this:

I am the living proof of my words

    • Hit there! Thanks for reading my article! Yeah, I know it sounds unbelieavable! Now if you are an experienced skier and you are used to go skiing to the major european ski centers like those you can find in Austria, Switzerland etc I think it will not be a great upscaling for you! Most of them have some advanced routes you can try though. Now as for the prices the average daily ticket for an adult is around 30€ for peak season and half the price during low season. To rent the neccesary equipment you need will cost you around 25€. Hope that this helps!

  • Haven’t been to Greece in several. I spent most of my time on the beach not to ski.

    • That’s what Greece is known for, but I think we need to make something to change that! Greece is wonderful all the seasons not only for 3 months!

  • It’s amazing. I knew there was snow in winter in Greece, but skiing didn’t cross my mind.. 🙂 . I would be on the bunny slopes and enjoy some hot chocolate afterwards. Maybe time for a return trip to Greece!

  • Wow skiing in Greece that’s awesome! Going on a ski holiday and island hopping in Greece are both on our bucket list so perhaps now we can combine them into one trip. Thanks for the heads up on a couple of places to go too, we’ll definitely check them out when planning our next trip.
